Guerra

“Hurry Chente!” I said as we were being chased by about ten KKK members.

The day was settling into dusk, and we were out in the desert desperately looking for shelter. As we ran across the desert, weaving and skimming through all the Joshua Trees and cacti, we saw our crew in a tank the size of a small building. The tank was a giant, towering over us so that the sun seemed to disappear for a split moment in time. They opened the tank, and we ran inside.

“Do. You. See. Them?” I said winded like a tumbleweed.

“No, they seem to have disappeared. They must have seen their disadvantage to the tank and retreated into finding shelter for themselves.” said Mario. Mario was tall, dark, and handsome. His entire left arm was covered in tattoos and his hair was long, braided like our ancestors.

“Thank our ancestors!” I said, “Brother, are you okay?” I look over to see my brother drinking water from the water jug like someone who was deprived of this luxury. He simply lifted his right thumb and nodded with no sound in response as he inhaled the water.

The war started in 2010. The United States of America against Latinos and Latinas around the country. The kind of civil war that would last years, but that was necessary for the survival of our people and our land. The war was set in Southern California as many people continued to view this part of the U.S as Mexico. Around February of 2009, the Obama administration allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E) to basically hunt immigrant people to deport them back to “their” country. They were at the grocery stores, the shopping centers, McDonalds, and even at schools. The schools were one of the scariest places to be if you were an immigrant or even looked like an immigrant’s child or relative. Even if you (a child) weren’t taken from a school, police officers usually spied on you and followed you home. I knew about 20 people from school that this happened to and it wasn’t simply students that were being taken, it was their parents and relatives as well.

A year later in June of 2010, a group of Latinas known as Fuerza started protesting the ICE raids. By this point people were being taken from their homes. The Fuerza women had many women who were in combat with the US military, having served in Iraq and Afghanistan. They all owned weapons and had many connections. The first attack came form the Fuerza women. They bombed the immigration prison located in Lancaster, California. North of Los Angeles and part of the last city of LA county, which was a huge county. The United States declared war, only the second civil the county has ever witnessed, only this time the change would come.

Victoria

By the end of August of 2010, men had also joined the Fuerza women, however, only women would go on to govern and run the Fuerza. By December of 2010, the Fuerza membership had gone from about 50 members to about 5 thousand. The Fuerza only grew and grew, giving them a real chance of winning the war. About five years later, in 2016, the Fuerza, with the help of the Mexican government, regained power over California and Texas as well as New Mexico. The only raids left was of those others who were not of indigenous and Aztec descent, not including other minorities. The others were white Anglo beings.
